BANGKOK, Aug 31 (TNA) – Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has held a meeting on preparations of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit due to be held in Thailand between this November 2- 4, according to a government spokeswoman.
The national committee, chaired by Gen. Prayut, also defence minister, held the meeting on Friday to ensure that the ASEAN Summit is held smoothly in Thailand as the kingdom is the chairman of the regional bloc this year, said the spokeswoman.
Several leaders from the United States, Japan and China are scheduled to attend as dialogue partners of ASEAN.
The Thai Foreign Affairs Ministry is currently holding a meeting to enquire whether U.S. President Donald Trump would attend the upcoming meeting, the spokeswoman said.
Gen. Prayut is due to travel to the U.S. next month and both government leaders are expected to hold an official meeting.
The spouses of government leaders will have an opportunity to inspect several activities during their presence.
For example, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will brief them on how the kingdom eradicates marine garbage to protect environment, she added. (TNA)
