BANGKOK, July 3 (TNA) – Amnesty International Thailand, director Piyanut Kotsan and some activists submitted open letters to Deputy Prime Minister, Gen Prawit Wongsuwan and National Police Chief Pol Gen Chaktip Chaijinda, calling for the police to find the perpetrators of the attack on political activist Sirawit Serithiwat.
Piyanut said attacks on political activists, Sirawit Serithiwat (Ja New), Anurak Jeantawanich and Ekkachai Hongkangwan reflected the political activists, who had the right to express their opinions were unprotected.
They also called for the police to disclose the information on the progress in the investigation to ensure transparency.
Pol Maj Gen Thanai Apichartseni, deputy commissioner of the Special Branch Bureau received the letters while expressing his concerns over the issue.
He affirmed that the National Police Chief did not ignore the public outcry and ordered all cases of political activist attacks be expedited.
The police are ready to investigate on any tip-off from all parties, including a claim made by Chalerm Yoobamrung, a key figure in the Pheu Thai Party, who said that some senior police officers provide hideouts for two of all four Ja New’s attackers. (TNA)
