BANGKOK, May 3 (TNA) — His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has granted pardons and commuted sentences for certain groups of prison inmates on the occasion of his coronation in order to allow convicts to have the opportunity to beome the good citizens which would benefit the nation.
The royal decree on the royal pardons was published in the Royal Gazette on Friday, effective on Saturday.
According to the royal decree, HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn deemed the coronation ceremony to be an auspicious occasion on which to pardon prisoners in order to give them a chance to become good citizens and to perform good deeds for the country.
Officials do not have a figure for the number of inmates who will benefit from the pardon, with decisions to be made by different prisons depending on factors including the inmate’s age, how much of the sentence has been served and behavior. (TNA)
