BANGKOK, Oct 22 (TNA) — Amid demonstrations calling for reforms of the monarchy, Thai today senators stage a pledge of allegiance to the monarchy and protect the main pillar of the nation.
Senate president Pornpetch Wichitcholachai led senators and officials of the Senate office sang the Royal Anthem in front of a portrait of King Maha Vajiralongkorn in the event on Thursday.
He gave remarks devoting to the monarch and the royal family. It was a constitutional duty of the senators to protect the institution.
In recent days, royalists have stepped up their activities with rallies in Bangkok and other provinces after anti-government protesters have held demonstration with a call to reform the monarchy.
Large rallies were held on Wednesday which was the birthday anniversary of Princess Srinagarindra, the grandmother of King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
Many groups have announced their plans to hold royalist rallies in the coming days to express their stance. (TNA)
