BANGKOK, Feb 19 (TNA) – Anti-narcotic authorities of Thailand and China have arrested a transnational heroin trafficker.
Deputy national police chief Chalermkiat Sriworakhan and Wei Xiaojun, the deputy secretary-general of China’s National Narcotics Contril Commission, China’s top drug enforcement agency jointly held a press conference on Monday on the arrest of the Chinese drug fugitive who was hiding in Thailand.
Pol Gen Chalermkiat said police in Hainan had arrested 24 suspects with 11.7 kilograms of heroin and 190 grams of crystal meth on July 3. The suspects told police that they had received the drugs from two Chinese people who escaped to Thailand.
In January immigration police found that one of the fugitives had his agent apply for a visa to prolong his stay in Thailand. He cited his desire to learn religion as the reason. Immigration police then revoked his visa for realizing that he was a fugitive.
Police also learned that he stayed at a hotel in Surin’s provincial seat. He was arrested there. The other fugitive remained at large. (TNA)
