BANGKOK, Feb 14 (TNA)
– The newly appointed North Korean ambassador to Bangkok called on Thai
Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam at Government House Thursday on the
occasion of his assumption of office.
Kim Je Bong, the ambassador, introduced himself to Mr Wissanu. Both sides discussed situations on
the Korean Peninsula and intention to boost bilateral cooperation on transport
and security.
Both mentioned longstanding good relations and exchange visits
of high-level officials between Thailand and North Korea. The ambassador
promised to support bilateral cooperation and expected both countries to
further strengthen bilateral relations.
The ambassador also expressed gratitude towards Thailand for
its past donations of rice and necessities to help victims of disasters and
food shortages in North Korea.
Regarding situations on the Korean Peninsula, the ambassador
said North Korea and South Korea were increasing their cooperation on
transport, cultures and sports. He also mentioned great success from summits on
Korean Peninsula security between the presidents of North Korea and South Korea
and between the presidents of North Korea and the United States.
Mr Wissanu expressed his appreciation on growing cooperation
of North Korea with South Korea and the US. He also said that Thailand was
willing to support cooperation of all parties for the sake of regional peace.
