BANGKOK, Jan 14 (TNA) — The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) convenes an urgent meeting with relevant organizations to discuss hazardous dust in the capital and rainmaking is considered as a possible immediate solution.
Chatree Watanakachorn, BMA’s environment director, said Bangkok governor Aswin Khwanmuang convened representatives of the Pollution Control Department, the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation, traffic police, the Department of Land Transport, and the Mass Rapid Transit Authority.
The meeting was set at the City Hall at noon as fine particles were affecting public health in many areas of Bangkok.
The Pollution Control Department reported that fine particulate matters (PM2.5) were at hazardous levels in inner Bangkok. It included Din Daeng Road in Din Daeng district where the air quality index (AQI) was at 149 at 9am.
On Kanchanaphisek Road in Bang Khunthian district PM2.5 slightly dropped from yesterday but the air quality index was at 154.
Officials were also concerned about air in Nakhon Pathom province as the air quality index was at 173 in Nakhon Pathom sub-district at 7am. The index at 101 and over indicates health impacts.
Earlier Mr Chatree said the Bangkok governor ordered all district offices to locate sources of dust, clean roads, strictly prohibit people from burning garbage and dry grass and keeping vehicle engines idling, and ensure standard dust control at construction sites. (TNA)
