BANGKOK, Oct 22 (TNA) — The commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Army has ordered the military to get serious in tackling narcotics and take advantage of the Damrongtham Center mechanisms to help in their efforts.
Deputy Spokeswoman for the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Col Sirichan Nga-Thong reported that Gen Apirat Kongsompong, the new Army Chief and the secretary-general of the NCPO today chaired a tele-conference meeting from Pattani province as he was on a inspection tour of the southern provinces.
In the meeting Gen Apirat reiterated the directives of Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon related to the narcotics problem which every departments must act expeditiously to produce results.
Col Sirichan revealed that Gen Apirat has ordered all internal security forces to work closely together to cut off all possible routes of drug trafficking into the country.
Gen Apirat specified that authorities along all of the country’s borders must use all means at their disposal to actively prevent drug incursion as well as locate and capture assault weaponry used by drug syndicates.
Gen Apirat said he wanted security forces in every territory to quickly setup checkpoints and initiate active patrols at, and along all critical locations. (TNA)
