BANGKOK, Feb 7 (TNA) – A Thai member of parliament (MP) is facing serious allegations after a court in Chiang Mai issued an arrest warrant for him in connection with a rape case.
Chiang Mai police today sent a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, requesting permission to arrest Mr. Chaiyamphawan Manpianjitt, a Bangkok MP from the Thai Progress Party.
The case stems from a complaint filed on January 9 by a Taiwanese woman who alleges that Chaiyamphawan sexually assaulted her at a hotel in Chiang Mai in the early hours of January 9, 2025.
Following an investigation, the Chiang Mai Provincial Court approved an arrest warrant for Mr. Chaiyamphawan on February 4.
Mr. Chaiyamphawan’s team has responded to the allegations, claiming he is being “framed” and the accusations are an attempt to discredit him. They stated that he will address the matter publicly.
Previously, Chaiyamphawan was an MP for the Move Forward Party but was expelled from the party due to allegations of sexual harassment. The incident occurred in 2023. -819 (TNA)
