BANGKOK, March 25 (TNA) – The Supreme Court suspended Ratchaburi MP Pareena Kraikupt from duty as it accepted a complaint from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) that accused her of seriously breaching the ethical code for state officials in a land encroachment case.
The order from the court took immediate effect on Miss Pareena, an MP of the coalition-core Palang Pracharath Party who represented Ratchaburi province.
She was charged with encroaching on a forest reserve in Ratchaburi and the NACC asked the court to suspend her from duty in compliance with Section 235 of the constitution, Section 87 of the Organic Act on Anti-Corruption and the Code of Ethics for state officials.
Miss Pareena had the right to oppose the order within 14 days. The court set the first hearing of the case on April 30.
Earlier Miss Pareena asked the Supreme Court not to accept the case from NACC and not to order her to cease performing her MP’s duty. She told the court that her duty had no impacts on the trial.
The court dismissed her requests as the case complied with Paragraph 3 of Section 235 of the constitution. (TNA)
