CHIANG MAI, Dec 18 (TNA) – Temperatures plummeted to a chilly 5 degrees Celsius on Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest peak, as a cold wave swept across the northern region.
The mountain’s stunning landscape, often compared to Switzerland, has attracted numerous visitors seeking to experience the winter wonderland.
Baan Khun Klang, a village nestled in the Doi Inthanon National Park, has become a popular destination for tourists drawn to its picturesque scenery, including terraced rice fields, cascading waterfalls, and blooming flowers.
The village offers a range of accommodations, from homestays to boutique hotels, and is home to the Mhong ethnic minority, known for their flower cultivation.
The Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecast that the cold spell will persist until Christmas, with temperatures expected to remain low in the northern and northeastern regions. Bangkok and its surrounding provinces will also experience cooler weather.
However, the TMD cautioned that the weather pattern could change, and advised the public to stay updated on the latest forecasts.
There is a possibility of rain showers in the northern region during the New Year holiday period due to the combined effects of the cold front and the westerly disturbances. -819 (TNA)
