BANGKOK, Aug 13 (TNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit discussed with representatives of the Farmers’ Reconstruction and Development Fund income generation and debt prevention to help farmers.
The representatives told him that 5.5 million farmers from 53,589 farmers’ organizations were eligible to assistance from the fund that was supervised by committees at three levels.
The top level sees a policy-making committee that Mr Jurin chairs. The second-level committee is the board of the fund. The other level concerns provincial committees.
The Farmers’ Reconstruction and Development Fund started in 1999 to help indebted farmers and improve their life. The fund has saved about 30,000 farmers from losing about 300,000 rai of their land.
Mr Jurin told representatives of the fund to seriously solve farmers’ problems including their debts so that they would not lose their land. He also told them to create jobs for farmers so that they would have enough income for their life. (TNA)
