BANGKOK, July 25 (TNA) – The Royal Irrigation Department has increased water discharge to help farmers downstream.
Surachart Malasri, Director of Irrigation Office 12 said that the Bhumibol Dam increased water discharge by two million cubic metres to 25 million cubic metres.
The irrigation department told governors in the downstream provinces including Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit and Sukhothai to stop pumping water from 400 water pumping stations from the Ping River and the Nan River for three days to increase the inflow of water into the Chao Phraya River.
The increased volume of water in the downstream Chao Phraya River will be used for the irrigation system to supply water for farmers in drought –affected areas.
Meanwhile, officials are considering reducing water discharge from the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam in Lopburi as downstream areas have received more rainfall.
If there is more rain as forecast by the meteorological department, the low live storage in the Pa Sak Jolasid Dam reservoir will be increased. (TNA)
