CHON BURI, July 18 (TNA) – Elephants took part in a
candle procession to mark the beginning of the Buddhist Lent at a botanical
garden near Pattaya city on Wednesday.
Candle procession is an essential part of Buddhist Lent Day
or Khao Phansa, the first day of the waning moon of the eighth lunar month
which falls on July 17 this year.
Buddhists traditionally offer candles to monks marking the
beginning of a three-month rain retreat.
They carved wax candles into elaborate sculptures for lively
processions.
At Nong Nooch Tropical Garden & Resort in Chon Buri
province, the procession highlighted the jumbos joining humans in Buddhist lent
candle ceremony.
Similar to Buddhist Lent Day processions organized
countrywide, the parade consisted of offering for merit-making rituals,
donations, musical bands and dancers.
The management of the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden &
Resort said it wished to maintain the ancient religious tradition and national
heritage.(TNA)
