BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) – The Bank of Thailand (BoT) said it was waiting for clear information about Facebook’s Libra cryptocurrency and would discuss the matter with regulatory organizations.
Chantavarn Sucharitakul, BoT’s assistant governor for the Corporate Strategy and Relations Group, announced the stance of the central bank in response to the report that Facebook was inviting partners in the international financial sector to develop mechanisms for Facebook members to use Libra.
The BoT would wait for the form and mechanisms of the new organization that would be set up to supervise Libra exchange. Besides, the BoT would discuss the issue with regulators in countries which had different regulations and different policies on cryptocurrencies, Ms Chantavarn said.
Unlike other countries, the nations that were financial hubs did not regulate currency exchange, she cited. (TNA)
