BANGKOK, June 17 (TNA) — The Democrat Party introduced its nine “Economic Avengers” who will work out initiatives on economic solutions including e-commerce for farmers and taxes on international websites cashing in on Thailand.
Party leader Jurin Laksanavisit showed the modern economic team in a press conference at the party’s headquarters. The team is led by deputy party leader Prin Panitchpakdi.
Prin is a son of Mr Supachai Panitchpakdi, former Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and former Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The other members are Ath Hemvijitraphan, an expert in green energy, Aksornsri Phanishsarn, expert on international economy, women’s right activist Holly Amranand, Suriyapong Tabtimtae, expert on sharing economy, organic farming expert Nawee Nakwatchara, blockchain expert Sanjay Popli, social media expert Piyada Punnakitikasem, blockchain code writer Poramin Insom and social enterprise expert Somsak Boonkham.
“They will be the brain of the party that will push for economic development in the future,” Mr Jurin said.
Mr Prin said the Economic Avengers team would visit people to solve their economic problems, develop workers for modern labour markets, introduce e-commerce to farmers in order to raise farm prices and initiate other solutions to increase people’s income.
It would also look into unfair laws which, for example, let foreign vendors’ websites like Agoda and Booking use resources in Thailand and make huge profits without paying a tax, he said.
However, he said the team would not assign any policy to the party’s ministers. (TNA)
