BANGKOK, June 8 (TNA) – Bangkok was heavily flooded on Friday because of torrential rain while electricity at two water pumping stations were temporarily disrupted due to power failure, said Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang in his Facebook.
He apologized to Bangkok citizens for severe flooding and traffic congestion yesterday. He said over 100 millimeter of rainfall was recorded in the inner part of the capital city at around 3 pm.
Two water pumping stations in Chatuchak district and at Bang Sue’s water draining tunnel were not working due to power failure in the afternoon when the rain hit the city, explained Pol. Gen. Aswin.
The Metropolitan Electricity Authority was able to repair both water pumping stations later in the evening while the BMA used another pumping station and mobile water pumps to alleviate flooding during heavy rain, he said.
The BMA also dispatched its officials, pump equipment and necessary tools to affected areas until the situation returned to normal at 7 pm.
Speaking about heavy flood in the Rama 9 area, he said it was the private road and the owner had not allowed officials to improve the water drainage system there. (TNA)
