BANGKOK, June 4 (TNA) – The exports of Thai gems and
jewelry dropped 8.30 percent in the first four months this year, according the
Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT).
GIT director, Duangkamol Jiambutr, said the gems and jewelry
exports in that period totaled at US$3.79 billion.
She attributed the contraction to the US-China trade
dispute, global slowdown, Brexit and Thai baht appreciation.
Thailand has an ambitious plan and strategy to become an
international hub for gem and jewelry, ranked as third exporting industry in
the country. The major markets are China
and Hong Kong, USA, Europe and the Middle East.(TNA)
