BANGKOK, May 27 (TNA) — The Bureau of the Royal Household on late Sunday issued a statement which quoted the Lord Chamberlain as announcing a message from His Majesty the King that His Majesty the King sorrowfully acknowledged the death of Privy Council president and statesman Gen Prem Tinsulanonda.
Gen Prem had worked with loyalty and perseverance for King Bhumibol Adulyadej as army commander-in-chief, prime minister, privy councilor, statesman and the president of the Privy Council, the bureau stated.
Gen Prem also served as a regent and the president of the Privy Council in the reign of His Majesty the King who completely entrusted him. Gen Prem was considered as contributing greatly to the nation.
His Majesty the King presented a royal urn and a royal umbrella for the body, deployed a ceremonial band for the bathing rite and sponsored rites related to the funeral. Prayer-chanting rites for Gen Prem were set from May 27 to June 2.
Besides, His Majesty the King had Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn conduct the bathing ceremony and place a royal wreath for Gen Prem on his behalf at Wat Benchamabophit at 6pm on May 27.
Their Majesties the King and Queen will make merit for Gen Prem on the 7th day after his death.
Gen Prem passed away at the age of 99 at Phramongkutklao Hospital at 9.09am on May 26. (TNA)
