BANGKOK, May 10 (TNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon met the outgoing Singaporean ambassador and both agreed to further enhance relations between Thailand and Singapore.
Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit said Singaporean ambassador Chua Siew San met Gen Prawit to bid farewell as she completed her tenure as the ambassador to Thailand.
Gen Prawit praised Mrs Chua for playing important roles in boosting bilateral ties, especially military ones, in the past seven years. He promised Thailand, as the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, would proceed with Singapore’s initiatives for ASEAN and strengthen regional cooperation to cope with transnational threats.
Lt Gen Kongcheep quoted Mrs Chua as saying that Thailand and Singapore had developed good ties for a long time and she was grateful to Thai people and Thai armed forces that supported the promotion of bilateral relations.
Singapore was ready to back Thailand’s roles as the ASEAN chair and cooperate closely with Thailand for their partnerships, Mrs Chua was quoted as saying. (TNA)
