BANGKOK, May 8 (TNA) – The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce expects people to spend 54.97 billion baht on the new school term.
UTCC president Sauwanee Thairungroj said the estimation was based on the university’s survey on 1,200 parents from May 1 to 6. The amount rises from 52.25 billion baht paid at the start of the 2018 school term.
Of the respondents, 90% said they sent only one child to school while 9.2% said they sent two children to school. Besides, 38.1% said their expenses for child education remained the same while 23.9% said theirs increased. Of their expenses, 45.4% was for tuition fees and 28.6% for special financial support for schools. Twenty-eight percent of the respondents said they had to borrow to pay for their children’s education.
The survey also found that 73.6% of the respondents thought their children needed special tuition classes to prepare for examinations; 73.3% said they could not provide their children with a chance to enter quality schools; and 72.1% said professionalism was declining among teachers.
Of the respondents, 83.2% said the use of smart phones, computer tablets and computer games did not affect their children’s education. (TNA)
