BANGKOK, May 1 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha told representatives of workers’ organizations that his government understood the needs of workers and was serving them.
The prime minister voiced his stance while attending a Labour Day event at the Bangkok Youth Center in Din Daeng district. On the occasion, workers’ organizations submitted 10 demands with the prime minister.
They included an amendment to the Labour Protection Act to allow employees to retire at 55 years with privileges and social security changes to take care of all groups of workers.
On the occasion, Gen Prayut said workers contributed to stable economic growth and the government already met some of their demands while working on the rest. He hoped the next government would build on what his government had done for workers in the past five years.
“The government understands the needs of workers and is determined to improve their welfare and privileges to cope with changes,” Gen Prayut said.
The government planned the production of labour to meet markets’ demand and also prioritized workers’ safety and legal action against labour abuse, he said.
Gen Prayut also called on workers and employers to cooperate with the government to achieve sustainable development. (TNA)
