BANGKOK, April 25 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha will attend the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) in Beijing, in which he will promote Thailand as the regional logistics hub.
Lt. Gen. Werachon Sukondhapatipak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, disclosed that the prime minister, together with Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai, and Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, is scheduled to attend the forum during March 26-27.
The forum was initiated by the Chinese government in October 2013 to foster cooperation in three continents, Asia, Europe and Africa.
Lt. Gen. Werachon said the Thai leader will put forward Thailand’s stance and as ASEAN chairman to support cooperation, beneficial to all sectors and not contradictory to other cooperations.
The forum will be attended by leaders from 38 countries. They will endorse the Leaders’ Roundtable, drafted with an aim to promote exchange of information and views among the countries along the ancient trade routes of the Silk Road regarding connectivity in all dimensions and promoting sustainable development.
The Thai prime minister will explain how Thailand 4.0 policy and Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) can respond to building cooperation under the BRF framework and will promote Thailand as ASEAN hub for logistics and transport, and as ASEAN gateway to China.
In this regard, Gen. Prayut will also meet with President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Keqiang, and Deputy Prime Minister Han Zheng, to discuss bilateral cooperation, including the Chinese-Thai high-speed rail project, trading of agricultural goods and development of technology and innovation.
