BANGKOK, April 23 (TNA) – Thailand’s Ministry of Labour
is tightening measures against Thai people seeking illegal entry to work in
South Korea as some 130,000 Thais are said to have worked without permits in
the country.
Of 190,000 Thais currently working in South Korea, 130,000
of them have overstayed and become illegal workers, called in Thai as “little
ghosts,” according to the Ministry.
A group of 400 Thais had been held in South Korea for
working without permits, said Minister of Labor Adul Saengsingkaeo on Tuesday.
Each month, about 400-600 Thais were blocked from leaving
for South Korea, he said.
Due to high labour demand in South Korea and high remuneration,
several Thai workers seek illegal employment in industries such as
construction.
Thai authorities had monitored and blocked attempts for
illegal employment as well as conducted crackdown on illegal agents and
brokers, the minister said. (TNA)
