BANGKOK, April 19 (TNA) — The Police Commission appointed border patrol police commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sompong Chidduang as the new immigration police commissioner in place of Pol Lt Gen Surachate Hakparn.
The commission also appointed Pol Lt Gen Wichit Paksa, a commissioner attached to the Royal Thai Police Office, as the border patrol police commissioner succeeding Pol Lt Gen Sompong.
The police commission made the appointments after Pol Lt Gen Surachate had recently been transferred from the police to become a special advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Deputy Prime Minister/Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon chaired the police commission’s meeting. He declined to say why Pol Lt Gen Surachate had been transferred. He said Pol Lt Gen Surachate would not be investigated for his past action in the police because he had already been transferred out of the police force.
National police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda said the new appointments of Pol Lt Gen Sompong and Pol Lt Gen Wichit would be submitted to His Majesty the King for royal command.
Apart from both positions, the police commission also appointed special advisors with the rank of police general and specialists with the ranks of police lieutenant general and police major general. The commission’s meeting lasted less than an hour. (TNA)
