BANGKOK, April 18 (TNA) – A boat crew member was arrested and charged with the rape of a British tourist on Phi Phi Island in Krabi province.
Deputy national police spokesman, Kritsana Pattanacharoen said the 21-year-old Briton is a lone traveller, arriving on the island on Apr 12.
She hung out with an Irish man, who she met there on Sunday night. Both were drunk and ended up sleeping at a beachfront restaurant of another hotel on their way back to their rooms.
She said the suspect sexually assaulted her. Then, she was awake and the man escaped. She went to file a complaint at the police station in the morning.
The police sent her to get a medical examination and checked CCTV cameras. The suspect was detained yesterday.
National police chief, Chakthip Chaijinda ordered his subordinates to provide help and support to the victim and the embassy staff in proceeding the case.
He praised the local police for the quick arrest of the suspect, based on forensic evidence. (TNA)
