BANGKOK, May 14 (TNA) – Police arrested a man for allegedly raping a Norwegian tourist on Pha-ngan Island on Monday, one day after the tourist filed the complaint to the police.
Pol Col Kritsana Pattanacharoen, the deputy police spokesman said the suspect confessed to the crime.
Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, the national police chief praised the investigation teams and all police officers, resolving the case for their speedy arrest, based on forensic evidence.
CCTV cameras captured the image of the suspect, on a motorcycle, talking to the victim and her male friend.
The Norwegian tourist lost her wallet while she was attending the Half Moon Party in early hours of Sunday. The suspect volunteered to help her by offering a ride to the beach where the party was held to look for her lost wallet. He then attacked her and raped her in an alley.
The police found the suspect and the same motorcycle, shown on the CCTV footage, at a motorcycle repair shop near the crime scene.
The man was interrogated and his DNA sample was collected as evidence to press charges again him. (TNA)
