SAKAEO, April 8 (TNA) – Thousands of Cambodian workers in
Thailand begin their journey back home to celebrate the upcoming traditional
New Year festival of both countries.
Mass exodus of Cambodians flocked border crossings in Sakaeo
province ahead of Thailand’s Songkran Festival this weekend.
The traditional New Year Festival is also celebrated in
Cambodia, known as Chaul Chnam Thmey meaning entering the New Year in Khmer.
The Thai government grants the visa exemption for migrant
workers from Cambodia as well as Laos and Myanmar to allow them to celebrate
Songkran Festival in their home countries from April 5 until April 30.
Immigration officials at Ban Klong Luek permanent border
crossing in Aranyaprathet district have been busy to facilitate the hike of
Cambodian travelers making their journeys home.
Songkran celebration in Thailand will begin on Songkran Day
which is fixed on April 13. But
festivities start early in some areas and last until late April. (TNA)
