BANGKOK, March 22 (TNA) – His Majesty King Maha
Vajiralongkorn of Thailand on Thursday presided over a ceremony to change the
attire of the Emerald Buddha, the palladium of the Kingdom of Thailand, from
winter season to summer season.
The King, accompanied at Her Royal Highness Princess Bajra
Kitiyabha, changed the gold seasonal costume of the Emerald Buddha at Wat Phra
Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) inside the Grand Palace on Thursday
evening.
The Emerald Buddha’s seasonal attires are changed in three
royal ceremonies per year at the turns of seasons, a royal tradition dating back
over 200 years since the reign of King Buddha Yodfah or King Rama I.
The costumes are made of diamond encrusted golden robes, a
solid gold robe and a gold-plated monk’s robe with headdress.
After the ceremony the King sprinkled holy water over
officials and people granted the royal audience. (TNA)
