BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) – The deputy spokesman of the US Department of States expressed condolences on the death of Virachai Plasai, Thai ambassador to the United States, as his funeral was set at Wat Thai of Washington DC on March 19-21.
Robert Palladino, the deputy spokesperson, released the statement of condolences as follows.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I offer heartfelt condolences on the passing of His Excellency Ambassador Virachai Plasai to his family, friends, and the people of Thailand.
Ambassador Virachai is remembered by many as a stalwart friend of the United States, working tirelessly to further the U.S.-Thai relationship and advance the prosperity and security of both our nations. Ambassador Virachai previously served as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to the United Nations in New York where he did much to exert Thai leadership globally. He was an avid musician, bringing the beauty of His Late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s musical compositions to many Americans.
Ambassador Virachai will be greatly missed. The United States will long remember his leadership and contributions to his country and the world.”
For the death of the ambassador at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore on March 16, the Thai embassy in Washington DC wrote on its Facebook page that people could sign a condolence book at the embassy at 1024 Wisconsin Avenue N.W., Washington, D.C. 20007 at 10am-3pm on March 19-21 and religious ceremonies related to the death were set at Wat Thai of Washington DC at 13440 Layhill Road, Silver Spring, MD 20906 at 7pm on March 19-21.
