CHIANG MAI, March 6 (TNA) – Hot and dry conditions have
been blamed for bushfires in several provinces in the North of Thailand.
In Chiang Mai’s Mae Tang district, bushfires spread a Sri
Lanna National Park destroying several acres of dense forest. Firefighters have struggled in their attempt
to distinguish the fires in mountainous terrain.
Like other spots, farm waste burning has been blamed for the
fire.
In Nan, a Facebook user posted a video captured while
passing on a highway toward Payao province.
Thick smoke put visibility to the lowest level.
While bushfires pervasively erupt in the mid of the dry
season, drought has become visible in most parts of upper Thailand.
Water in natural waterways like the Yom River has dried up
affecting water work in many communities.
Military water trucks have been sent to deliver water to Pho
Prathap Chang district of Phichit province to ease water shortage.
People in Thailand’s North also have to cope with air
pollution deriving from bushfires.
Many areas have been reported to face unsafe levels of PM2.5
– airborne particulates 2.5 microns or less in diameter. (TNA)
