BANGKOK, March 1 (TNA) — Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Srivara Ransibhramanakul has ordered the deployment of more police on duty in three southern border provinces to ensure security for the upcoming general election.
In a meeting on electoral security, Pol Gen Srivara said that the election deserved protection from more police on duty because the vote count would be finished at night.
Regarding updates on southern situations, the deputy national police chief said there was not a report on any possible movement to cause unrest related to the upcoming election.
Apart from ensuring security at polling units, police would also facilitate traffic in their vicinities so that voters could exercise their rights in time for early voting on March 17 and the main polling date on March 24, he said.
According to Pol Gen Srivara, there have been some 90 complaints related to the election and most of them concern damaged campaign posters, molestation and candidates’ qualifications.
Meanwhile, Manoon Wichiannit, investigative support director of the Election Commission, warned social media users not to violate law by posting baseless accusations, lies and threats related to the election. Such behaviors were criminal acts and EC staff were advising concerned parties to make corrections, he said. (END)
