PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, Feb 27 (TNA) – A World War II-era
bomb discovered under a rail bridge in Thailand’s western Prachuap Khiri Khan
province was set to be destroyed.
The bomb weighing over 1,000 pounds is believed to have been
dropped by the Allied forces during the World War II. Construction workers found it near a rail
track, causing train delays on Tuesday.
The military, police and railway services authority have
planned to destroy the bomb Wednesday afternoon. After a discussion on the plan, they decided
to destroy the bomb at an abandoned airfield in Prachuap Khiri Khan and urged
the public to remain calm and stay away from the airfield.
The explosive was buried two meter deep under a rail bridge,
about 500 meters away from Wang Pong Train Station.
Air force officers Tuesday night removed the bomb from the
site to the airfield, located about three kilometers apart as all train service
has resumed operations.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team estimated the
bomb explosion will create a blast of about 1.8 kilometer radius. (TNA)
