BANGKOK, Feb 1 (TNA) — The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) issued immediate measures related to production to reduce particulate matter with 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter (PM2.5).
FTI chairman Supant Mongkolsuthree said the measures were intended for nationwide operators to keep their production environmentally friendly.
Regarding the immediate measures, FTI members would clean the storages of their raw materials and the exhaust pipes of their trucks to minimize fine dust, maintain their boilers, use clean fuel such as natural gas, detect hotspots in their premises, and have their staff to work at home.
For long-term measures, FTI will seriously implement its Eco Factory policy to make its members’ factories environmentally friendly. Besides, it will encourage farmers to use environmentally friendly harvest methods and urge the government to promote electric vehicles for public transport.
Mr Supant said that PM2.5 resulted mainly from the burning of biomass, small and medium-sized factories burning husk, wood scraps and fuel oil, road transport and construction. The industrial factories that burned natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas did not cause PM2.5, he said. (TNA)
