BANGKOK, Jan 29 (TNA) – Each TV station will provide free
broadcast time for registered political parties to explain their policies to
the electorate for 10 days before the March 24 election.
During a meeting with TV stations’ managements on Monday,
the Election Commission (EC) made the requests for televised policy
announcement which is required by laws.
EC Deputy Secretary-General Jarungwith Phumma said the
meeting discussed the allotment of airtime for election campaigning by
political parties.
For 10 days, each TV channel will provide one hour airtime
every day for election campaign messages.
The first five days will be solely for ads submitted by
political parties and the rest for debates of contesting parties organised by
the EC.
Out of their respective air schedules, TV stations can fill
these allotments at any time of the day, said Sawaeng Boonmee, EC Deputy
Secretary-general.
The EC will organise pre-recorded debates to be televised
but Sawaeng said each TV outlet could hold their own debates among political
parties.
Out of 105 political parties registered with the EC, so far
36 had completed all the requirements to fill their candidates. From February 4-8, the EC will accept
parliamentary candidate registrations. (TNA)
