BANGKOK, Jan 16 (TNA) – World Bank forecasts Thailand’s
economy to grow by 3.8% in 2019 and 3.9% in 2020, as the country’s economy is
likely to be affected by subdued growth in exports.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, Kiatipong Ariyapratchaya,
a World Bank senior economist, said under the current global outlook Thailand
should focus on infrastructure development and economic reforms to stimulate
growth.
Facing global slowdown and trade tensions, the Thai economy
last year was projected to grow 4.1 percent, the World Bank report says.
Birgit Hansl, Country Manager for World Bank in Thailand,
recommended Thailand to invest more in human capital to ensure a healthy,
educated, and resilient population ready for the workplace of the future.
A recent World Bank report says “children born in Thailand
today will be 60 percent as productive when they grow up as they could be if
they enjoyed complete education and full health.”
Hansl said improvements in education and health service
would help reduce social inequality in the long run.(TNA)
