BANGKOK, Jan 15 (TNA) – An artificial rainmaking operation has started today with an aim to alleviate fine dust pollution in Bangkok.
The Director – General of the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation, Surasri Kidtimonton said the morning rain on Tuesday in many Bangkok’s districts and parts of Samut Prakan is the natural rain, caused by the moisture-bearing southeast wind from the Gulf of Thailand.
The rainfall has increased the relative humidity to 72 per cent, more than enough for the artificial rainmaking.
The Eastern Royal Rainmaking Operation Center flew two Casa aircraft for cloud seeding over the Bang Pakong district in Chachoengsao. If it succeeds, there will be rain to alleviate the air pollution in the eastern part of Bangkok this afternoon.
While dust particles slightly dropped in some areas due to the rain this morning, the air quality measuring stations detected the fine dust level, exceeding the safety standard in three more locations of the capital from 20 locations yesterday. (TNA)
