BANGKOK, Jan 10 (TNA) — The Office of the Private Education Commission has told the management of Bangkok Christian College to review its policy for secondary students to wear casual clothes instead of uniforms on Tuesdays.
Chalam Athatham, secretary-general of the office, said although the school management explained that the project had been planned for over a decade based on researches that show casual dress helped unleash student’s creativity and cease pressure on them, his office was concerned about impacts on regulations, discipline, order, parents’ expenses and teachers’ supervision of students.
“The clothing of students at private schools is however subject to the school uniform regulation that the Education Ministry issued in 2008. Although the school’s management and teachers said they wanted to do the research for six weeks, they should consider deeper if there will be any impact,” Mr Chalam said.
Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin quoted King Rama V as saying that school uniforms were aimed at promoting discipline and reducing social classes. (TNA)
