BANGKOK, DEC 27 (TNA) – Privy Council President Prem
Tinsulanonda tells Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to treat people with
different views as friends during a New Year greeting at his residence on
Thursday.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, cabinet members and chiefs
of the military and police forces visited and delivered their New Year wishes to
the former prime minister and a retired general at Sisao Thewes residence.
While voicing his support for Prayut, Prem advised him that
friendship was a key for politicians of both government and opposition sides to
performing their duties. “If everyone
see others as friends everything will go smoothly; everyone can have different
views,” Prem said.”
“The Prime Minister sees things differently from his
opposition but must keep his friendly manner,” he continued.
He said this concept worked very well for him; “if you can
do it would be a great merit and a good leadership role model,” Prem said.
Prem’s remarks came as Prayut has faced growing criticisms
not only from his opponents but also his supporters in the run-up to the
general election planned for February next year.
Former deputy prime minister Pridiyathorn Devakula on Monday
alleged Prayut of nepotism and abuse of power to stay on power. In his statement, Pridiyathorn points to
several reasons Prayut should not retain the office after the election.
When Prem was greeting the well-wishers, Prayut told him
that he would heed the advice and had never seen anyone as foes. (TNA)
