BANGKOK, DEC 25 (TNA) – Several thousand people
nationwide scramble to secure their rights in the government’s “One
Million House” campaign, a one-day-only offer for house buyers.
The state-run Government Housing Bank (GHB) initially
budgeted Bt50 billion in loans for the program, which would be enough for
50,000 people. But with overwhelming
demands, applicants had reserved loans, exceeding the budget.
Under the program to help low-income earners, people can get
loans to buy house priced under Bt1 million.
When approved, they can receive low-interest loans that can be repaid
over 40 years. For those who earn less
than Bt25,000 a month are charged a fixed 3 per cent interest for the first
five years. Those earning more pay 3 per
cent interest for the first three years.
The GHB announces later that it will extend more budget more
to help low-income earners buy homes after the entire budget for the program
was booked on the same day it was introduced.
GHB chief executive Chatchai Sirilai said loan extension
still needed a Cabinet approval. (TNA)
