BANGKOK, Nov 22 (TNA) – About 55,000 police will be deployed to provide security at Krathong venues nationwide today as about 50,000 revellers are expected at ICONSIAM, the newly-opened shopping mall on the bank of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok.
Deputy national police chief, Pol Gen Chalermkiat Srivorakhan yesterday inspected the Loy Krathong venues in Bangkok such as the Thewes pier, the Rama XIII bridge and ICONSIAM.
The deputy police chief said he ordered all units to step up security at 200 Loy Krathong venues across the country. Besides 55,000 police, deployed to the Loy Krathong venues, another 10,000 will be on standby.
There are 30 main venues including four places in Bangkok, which expects the large number of festival goers.
About 50,000 revellers are expected at ICOMSIAM, 10,000 -20,000 at Asiatique, 10,000 at Rama VIII Bridge and 5,000 at Chulalongkorn University.
He also instructed the police officers to make sure that entertainment venues strictly ban people under 20 from entering their venues.
Piers and pontoons have been checked for the safety of revelers and lifesaving gears are available in case of an emergency.
He asked for cooperation from public members to refrain from lighting fireworks, firecrackers. Sky lanterns are not allowed to be released outside the permitted areas. (TNA)
