BANGKOK, Nov 11 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha wishes people will celebrate the Loy Krathong festival safely and environment-friendly.
Government spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat said Gen Prayut who was also the defence minister advised people to use Krathong baskets made from biodegradable materials or those easy to collect from waterways.
The prime minister also urged people to take good care of themselves and their children especially when they approached waterways and ponds to lay Krathong floats in the Loy Krathong festival so that everyone would be safe.
Besides, people should refrain from lighting fireworks and firecrackers or releasing floating lanterns for the sake of public safety, Ms Narumon quoted the prime minister as saying.
On the occasion, the government spokesperson said, Gen Prayut would lay his Krathong float in Kanchanaburi province where he visited along with cabinet ministers.
Meanwhile, Somnuk Rongthong, president of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, said 223 flights were either cancelled or rescheduled for safety during the Loy Krathong festival. (TNA)
