SUKHOTHAI, Nov 16 (TNA) – Sukhothai Loy Krathong and Candle Festival 2018 begins at the Sukhothai Historical Park, giving a reminiscence of the capital of Siam 700 years ago.
Sukhothai’s Governor Maitree Traitilanan on Friday opened the annual Festivals that will run until November 25. He said the province expected 300,000 tourists for Loy Krathong and Bt500 million in revenue.
In the first auspicious activity “Rung Arun Hang Kwam Suk” or the dawn of happiness, participants paid respects to the monarchs of the Sukhothai Kingdom and giving alms to Buddhist monks.
Loy Krathong which will be celebrated throughout Thailand on November 22 origiated in the Sukhothai era.
This year the Festival features light-and-sound shows, ancient sports, Nang Nopphamat beauty contests and other cultural displays.
On Loy Krathong Day, there will be a colorful procession of Royal Floats sent by His Majesty the King and other members of the royal family will be floated on the pond at Wat Sra Sri.
There will be processions of floats from local communities and Nang Nopphamat beauty queen.(TNA)
