BANGKOK, Nov 5 (TNA) – The Ministry of Culture will hold a Krathong (banana leaf basket) contest during the Festival of Lights, “Loy Krathong” on Nov 22 at Wat Rajadhiwas Viharn in Bangkok’s Dusit’s district.
People launch their Krathong, lotus-shaped vessels, decorated with banana leaves, flowers, candles and incense sticks in the river to pay respect to the Goddess of the Water on the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar.
Director-General of Department of Culture Promotion, Chai Nakhonchai said that the event is aimed at raising awareness among Thai people on the value and the importance of the Loy Krathong tradition
The contest is classified into two categories: beauty and creativity.
Students, government agencies and private sectors and the general public can submit their entries in the team of five people.
The first prize for the winners is 25,000 baht in cash. All of the prizes are worth 300,000 baht in total. More information can be seen on the website of the Ministry of Culture www.culture.go.th. (TNA)
