CHIANG MAI, Nov 5 (TNA) – A one-year-old girl has suffered severe wounds after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs at her house in the northern province of Chiang Mai.
The girl remains in hospital at Doi Saket Hospital after she was bitten and scratched by dogs at her head and torso. She has been vaccinated against rabies and other infections.
Her father, Sangphet Suwanmanee said the incident occurred on Nov 3 when he went out to work and his wife was in the kitchen. The girl played on her own in the house when dogs attacked her. His wife and neighbours heard the girl crying and came to chase the dogs away.
Local authorities will help the poor families with the hospital cost and will convene a meeting with livestock officials to prevent stray dog attacks on children.
Head of local livestock office, Arthit Yodkhamlue said that his office received the budget to procure rabies vaccines but had no budget for sterilization. The number of stray dogs has risen recently and some pet owners abandoned their dogs in public places. (TNA)
