BANGKOK, Oct 31 (TNA) – The Ministry of Public Health declares intention to protect children from gaming addiction during the National Mental Health Week.
Piyasakon Sakolsattayatorn, Public Health Minister on Wednesday opened the National mental Health Week 2018, which focuses on gaming addiction among children.
The World Health Organization classified gaming disorder as a mental health disorder earlier this year.
The Ministry and 84 organizations jointly declared intention to tackle gaming addiction. Those measures are controlling digital or video-gaming consumption, which has negative impacts on children’s brain and behaviours and regulating video game contests and E-Sport.
The ministry will raise awareness on negative effects of excessive gaming and promoting playing game properly.
It will also monitor the problem and give game addicts access to health service.
About two million young people are vulnerable to gaming addiction. Out of this number, about 20,000 youths are severely addicted to gaming activities. They skipped classes and meals, the minister said.
He suggested the gaming time should be limited to 2 hours per day. Parents should be an example of their children. (TNA)
