NONTHABURI, March 27 (TNA) — The Public Health Ministry has launched a campaign for hygienic habits among food deliverymen whose number is soaring while people are working at home amid coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) concerns.
Deputy Prime Minister/Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul launched the “Clean Together” campaign that involved food delivery firms. Under the campaign, deliverymen working for the firms were told to wear face masks and regularly wash their hands.
Dr Danai Theewanda, deputy director-general of the Health Department, said many people became food deliverymen because such firms were recruiting more workers. He estimated the present number of local deliverymen at 200,000.
Dr Danai also said that convenience stores that operated around the clock were also recruiting about 20,000 deliverymen.
“Disease control among food deliverymen involves the measurement of their body temperatures, the use of face masks and the deliveries of foods in the way that buyers can pick up food boxes without touching the hands of deliverymen,” he said.
The campaign would later expand to pickup trucks selling fresh produce, he said. (TNA)
