BANGKOK, Feb
17 (TNA) – The Chao Phraya Express Boat Co.,Ltd. unveiled four double deck
air-conditioned boats to upgrade its service for commuters, connecting elevated
trains and subways.
The
catamaran or “Riva Express” is designed by Australian experts. The new design
reduces wave-making, impacts on environment and save energy. The diesel-powered
vessel has a seating capacity of 200 people.
They will serve commuters from Nonthaburi pier to Bang Pho pier
and Rajinee pier and Sathorn pier, linking MRT and BTS stations. The new boats will be operational on
April 1.
There is air
conditioning on board on the lower deck.
The open-air upper deck allows passengers to enjoy sightseeing along the
river. The boat operator plans to extend
the service route to the ancient city of Ayutthaya.
The boats are fitted with CCTV surveillance cameras for
safety of passengers. The holders of Rabbit cards for the Skytrain will be able
to use their cards to pay for the boat fare. (TNA)
