BANGKOK, Jan 20 – The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will continue to operate train services at its Hua Lamphong railway terminus after the new central Bang Sue station opens next year.
Denying a report in Japan that Hua Lamphong would be closed, acting SRT governor Worawut Mala said Hua Lamphong would only stop being the main train hub because it would serve a smaller number of trains.
However, its train services would continue but a part of it would become a museum of Thai railways, he said.
According to Mr Worawut, the Bang Sue station will be opened early next year and become the largest train station of Southeast Asia. Ticket booths will be on its first floor, long-haul and Red Line commuter trains on the second floor and the Airport Rail Link and high-speed trains linking main airports and other regions on the third floor.
“It will be the hub of trains, subways and other kinds of public transport and traffic problems in its vicinity will be solved,” Mr Worawut said.
There will also be shopping malls, hotels and office buildings at the new station and it will initially take over some train services from Hua Lamphong, he said. (TNA)
