BANGKOK, Jan 14 (TNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon has ordered concerned organizations to conduct serious campaigns and law enforcement to control smog.
Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit, spokesman of the deputy prime minister, said although rain alleviated smog in Bangkok and many other provinces, Gen Prawit ordered the serious solutions in both short and long terms. He wanted government organizations to maintain the emission standard of their vehicles and reduce their use in areas of critical air pollution.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment would keep people informed of smog situations; the Interior Ministry would seriously control dust at construction sites, ban field burning and reduce traffic in critical areas; and the Transport Ministry would seriously stop vehicles with black smoke and encourage people to use public transport, Lt Gen Kongcheep quoted Gen Prawit’s order.
Besides, the Industry Ministry would have factories reduce production in times of severe air pollution and the Commerce Ministry would control the prices of air purifiers and face masks.
Gen Prawit also ordered the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to increase green areas and clean roads and roadside trees daily to reduce fine dust, Lt Gen Kongcheep said. (TNA)
